BACKSTAGE AT KOOKAÏ AW16

Runway (209)

Last night's Kookai's AW16 Runway Show aptly hosted at the grandiose Royal Exhibition Building, provided us with plenty of inspiration for this coming winter and remarkably has even got us excited for the colder months. We saw a mix of bold designs in flared trousers and bell sleeves, mini length skirts and oversized jackets. Luxurious textures of wools and silks in a classic monotone colour pallet will fit seamlessly in our wardrobes. Pre-show, we went backstage to speak with Siobhan Kelly, Napoleon Perdis' Head Makeup Artist, to talk 70's inspired makeup and what must-have beauty products we'll be coveting this winter:

TH: What was the inspiration behind the looks you created for the Kookai AW16 show?

SK: The beauty look is inspired by 70’s Milan. Lashings of mascara on the top and bottom, big beautiful brows as well as a play on textures on the eyes. The framework of the eye is constructed with a rich matte chestnut shadow teamed with muted copper highlights. The face is signature Kookai; structured, fresh with a peach crème blush applied to the cheekbones, temples and lips reminiscent of the iconic beauties of the 70’s.

TH: Which key Napoleon products have been used to create these looks?

SK: The three essential products are:

1. The Couture Brow Kit

2. Light Switch Luminizer Palette

3. Dreamy Duchess Blush Cream

TH: What are some beauty trends we'll be seeing this winter, on and off the runway?

SK: Reflective Contouring is huge on the runway. Sometimes referred to as strobing it’s basically skipping the contouring and opting for a luminous highlights. By applying highlights to the skin, your face with naturally look contoured and more naturally beautiful. Electric Blue is a really fun trend for 2016. The best way to add a splash of colour to your look is with a hint of blue around the lash line. Apply as an eyeliner for a subtle way to stay ahead of the trend.

TH: What is your must-have Napoleon product and why?

SK: My favourite product is Auto Pilot Complex Skin Renewal Serum. It feels like your giving your skin a drink of water. Containing 3 native Australian berries, it smells amazing and is full of antioxidants and reduces fine lines. It’s also amazing for my sensitive skin as it’s free of parabens and synthetic dyes.

TH: What's your number one beauty tip?

SK: The best beauty advice I ever received was to wear sunscreen (thanks mum). I grew up at the beach and have very pale Irish skin so my mum was always making sure we had sunscreen on. Now I only wear foundations that contain sunscreen as I can ensure my skin is protected every day. My favourites are BBB Cream with an SPH 30 and China Doll Foundation with an SPF 15.
